Dodgers scratch Greinke from Wednesday's start due to sore calf
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have scratched major league ERA leader Zack Greinke from his start against Arizona on Wednesday night due to soreness in his calf.
The Dodgers say Greinke is expected to take his next turn in the Dodgers' rotation early next week.
The right-hander is 18-3 with a 1.65 ERA this season, making him a top candidate for the NL Cy Young Award. Greinke has victories in five consecutive starts and 13 of 15 since late June.
The decision to skip a start could prevent Greinke from winning 20 games for the first time in his career. It's unclear whether Greinke would make two more starts this season with the NL West-leading Dodgers almost certainly heading to the playoffs in early October.
Los Angeles has lost four straight since Greinke's last start.
