Reliever Sean Doolittle threw a simulated game on Tuesday for the Oakland Athletics, and things went well.
The lefty, still working his way back from a shoulder strain that has limited him to just one inning of work this season, threw 27 pitches at O.co Coliseum, facing right-handed teammates Josh Phegley and Mark Canha.
Canha relayed a scouting report regarding Doolittle's 'stuff' to CSN Bay Area's Joe Stiglich - and he liked what he saw: “He didn’t look like a guy just coming off an injury. He had good ride to his fastball. All his offspeed was solid.”
As for Doolittle himself, he left the session feeling pretty good about his current status: “It definitely seemed to be more deceptive, and I was able to miss more barrels. Phegley and Canha squared a few balls up the last time I threw live BP to them. This time there were a lot more fly balls and swings and misses. That’s some good feedback right there for sure.”
If all goes according to plan, the A's could send Doolittle out on a rehab assignment this weekend unless he has any more setbacks with his shoulder before then.
