The leaves are falling, announcing autumn’s long anticipated arrival. For some it is the onset of cooler weather, for sports fans everywhere, it is the middle of October, which means the Baseball Playoffs.
Regardless of who your team is, everyone can appreciate the high point of America’s pastime. As the season dwindles down, for two lucky and talented teams it means the World.
On Wednesday, the Cleveland Indians were the first team to punch their ticket to the Major League Baseball World Series. That team just so happens to be led by former Wildcat standout, and coaching guru, Terry Francona.
The Arizona Baseball program definitely took notice!

Francona attended the University of Arizona during the Jerry Kindall days, where Arizona Baseball reigned supreme, winning a College World Series in 1980.
Now after having an illustrious playing career, Francona has found success having coached in the Majors for 16 years now. In that time, he has of course made himself known in the league for being a great, and talented baseball mind. Additionally, he has won two World Series (going for his third) in as many appearances.
While skipper for the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and now the Indians, he has amassed over 1,300 victories as the General Manager. That number continues to grow at an impressive rate.
Arizona has certainly made their stamp in many sports at the professional level, and baseball has easily played a big part in that. With Arizona Baseball seemingly returning to prominence under head coach, Jay Johnson, that will only continue.
At Zona Zealots, we are certainly happy for Terry Francona, and wish him the best as he goes for Championship number three! BearDown, Terry!
