Get used to it: Rangers' Holland has no plans to abandon his 'Wild Thing' hairdo

Texas Rangers left-hander Derek Holland recently began sporting a haircut inspired by Charlie Sheen's "Major League" character Rick Vaughn. The cut was a hit on the Internet and with Sheen himself, who posted on social media that he approved of Holland's tribute.

Well, everyone should get used to Holland's new look because he doesn't plan on changing it anytime soon. That's basically what he told KRLD-105.3 FM earlier this week in a radio interview.

As the Dallas Morning News summarized, here's what Holland had to say regarding whether the "Wild Thing" 'do was here to stay: “Yes, it definitely is. That and the 'Wild Thing' walk out song. One of my buddies actually put that on Twitter. I got to hear it and it was pretty funny. A lot of people enjoyed it. But, yeah, it’ll stay here. It’s kind of like the mustache in 2011.”

As for how the decision to style his hair in that manner came about, Holland had a story for that as well: “It was one of my friends actually. They came up with it and we had actually talked about this a long time ago. He said, ‘When you come back, that’s what you need to come back with.’ And I was like, ‘Nah. I don’t know if I could do it.’ They finally talked me into it. Obviously a few drinks got into me and that’s why I did it. I definitely did the haircut to change it up. I got to enjoy myself. That’s what it’s all about.”

But Holland's "Major League" tribute doesn't end there. He is also the proud owner of a Jobu doll, thanks to one truly awesome fan.

The Rangers' starting rotation, now boasting Cole Hamels to go along with Holland, Yovani Gallardo and Colby Lewis, is a big reason for the team's recent success and status in the postseason picture. As a result, Holland conveyed a strong sense of confidence in the starting staff during his radio chat: "Now, with the rotation that we’ve got, you can tell how much more energy there is with those guys who have been playing and doing good. Everybody’s clicking [and] everybody’s real happy, so we’re feeding off of that. That’s a big plus. But it’s awesome to have this rotation. I feel like we can match up with anybody.”
