Giants' Buster Posey praises young catcher Andrew Susac
Young Giants backup catcher Andrew Susac was praised for his work by Buster Posey following Wednesday night’s game. This is encouraging for the Giants and may put manager Bruce Bochy more at ease when not having Posey, one of the best catchers in baseball, behind the plate.
According to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News, Posey said:
“If you get a catcher who can be a little more stubborn, then it’ll lead to frustration. But you don’t get that with Suse. He’s a quick learner and he’s a patient guy.”
Susac was behind the plate for the second straight time with Ryan Vogelsong on the mound. Vogelsong has pitched 12 2/3 scoreless innings over those two starts, according to Baggarly.
It’s no secret that certain catchers develop a better rapport with certain pitchers. While Susac may be developing that type of relationship with Vogelsong, Baggarly notes that Chris Heston and Tim Lincecum have much better ERA’s when Posey catches them.
As far as his relationship with Posey, Susac said:
“He’s my big brother, man. He’s always good to me.”
