Giants OF Juan Perez shut down for season with torn oblique

Published Sep. 23, 2015 6:07 a.m. ET

Another victim was added Tuesday to the litany of players affected by the San Francisco Giants' injury-riddled season.

Outfielder Juan Perez, who added to his personal injury woes by hurting himself while swinging and missing on Sunday, discovered through MRI results that he has a torn oblique muscle that will prevent him from playing for the rest of the season.

Perez is also one of a handful of Giants players, including Nori Aoki and most recently first baseman Brandon Belt, to suffer lingering concussion symptoms this season.

The 28-year-old Dominican also struggled with a right Achilles injury earlier in the summer.

Perez has played in 117 games in a backup role for the Giants over the past three seasons, in which he's hit .224/.267/.316 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 228 at-bats.
