Greinke not comparing his stellar season to Kershaw's 2014

Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke had another scoreless outing on Sunday -- his third straight. This time, the Dodgers scored for him which allowed him to pick up his first win in 10 starts.

No matter how good Greinke has been, it seems as though he will always be compared to teammate Clayton Kershaw.

Greinke leads the majors this season in ERA (1.58) -- a few ticks better than Kershaw’s 1.77 last season -- and was asked by reporters after the game to compare his season to Kershaw’s 2014 Cy Young and MVP season. Per ESPN, Greinke said:

“My [season] has been very average compared to his.”

When confronted with the fact that he’s given up no more than one run in 12 of his 16 starts, Greinke gave himself a little more credit saying, with his trademark dry humor:

“Well, it’s in between average and what he did last year.”

This season Greinke has been a man of few words and fewer runs. The right-hander is currently working on a 20 2/3 inning scoreless streak.
