How much are Cubs World Series tickets for Game 3?
On Friday night, the Chicago Cubs will host a World Series game for the first time in 71 years. And it certainly won’t come cheap to anyone who plans on being inside Wrigley Field for Game 3.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, you already know the Chicago Cubs are going to the World Series for the first time since 1945 and are looking to win their first championship since 1908.
Due to the American League winning the MLB All-Star Game in July, the Cleveland Indians will have home-field advantage for this World Series despite finishing nine games below the Cubs in the standings this season, as both teams oddly played only 161 games. What we know right now is that each team will host at least two games in this series and while tickets for Games 1 and 2 at Progressive Field are expensive, ranging from about $750 to a little north of $5000, it’s nothing compared to what fans will have to go through to be inside Wrigley Field once the series shifts to the north side of Chicago on Friday night for Game 3.
“This will smash every other World Series pricing, by every measure. I doubt it will ever be broken. Nearly 200 years of combined pent-up demand won’t ever happen again in any sport.”
That statement came from Jesse Lawrence, founder and CEO of TicketIQ, and he’s certainly not wrong. If you’re a Cubs fan who’s not a season ticket holder who was holding out hope that you may be able to find a cheap ticket out there to be a part of history on Friday night at Wrigley Field, the options out there right now aren’t looking good for you unless you can best a scalper outside of the stadium. Currently, the cheapest ticket on TicketIQ, which is obviously for Standing Room Only, is going for $2,344 with the most expensive ticket, located in Section 33, going for $29,290.
The starting price gets a little cheaper on CheapTickets.com with Standing Room Only starting at $2,121 but the highest-priced ticket is going for $40,000.
And then of course there’s StubHub. Arguably the most popular ticket site around, the starting price for a Game 3 ticket is right in the middle of the first two with Standing Room Only tickets starting at $2,229. And there are a few folks out there looking to really strike it big. There’s some Standing Room Only tickets going for more than $69,000, a few sets of Infield Terrace Box seats going for $100,000, some more Standing Room Only tickets going for $250,000 apiece and more infield seats respectively going for $395,000 and $420,000. And then there’s the person who is asking $996,969.70 per ticket for a pair of Outfield Field Box seats.
The Cubs and Indians are both looking to make a bit of history in this World Series and it should be a wonderful series to watch. And it looks as if this World Series will make a little history of its own as it will likely go down as the most expensive Fall Classic of all time by quite a wide margin.
