Indians catcher Yan Gomes suffers injury a day after 'sacrifice' to Jobu
Cleveland Indians catcher Yan Gomes suffered apparent injuries to his shoulder and leg while running out a ground ball during the fifth inning Sunday against the Twins.
Gomes hit a ground ball to third and as he tried to beat the throw to first, he attempted to avoid the tag by the first baseman Kennys Vargas, who was pulled off the bag on the throw from Eduardo Nunez. Gomes extended his left leg and stepped awkwardly on the bag, landing on his right shoulder as he fell to the ground.

Gomes immediately grabbed his left knee, then he reached for his right shoulder in apparent pain.
On Saturday, Gomes and his Indians teammates were involved a sacrifice of sorts to end Gomes' extended hitting slump. The team presented a Boston Market chicken to the baseball gods -- an obvious homage to the baseball cult classic movie "Major League" -- in the hopes that the tribute would turn around Gomes' fortunes.
Gomes doubled Sunday, ending his 0-for-27 slump, but could be out for an extended period of time after the awkward fall.
Indians managers Terry Francona said the team will continue to monitor Gomes' status.
