Indians' shortstop Francisco Lindor taken down by his own bat

Francisco Lindor seems like a good and fun guy.

His walk-up music is the Space Jam theme, and he's been known to dunk on fools at the ballpark. This alone should be karmic body armor against any ill fortune that might occur to him on the field.

But the baseball gods are vain and weird, and for some reason, decided to take Lindor down a peg during Tuesday night's game against the Rangers. The shortstop smacked a grounder in the bottom of the fourth and, while respectfully attempting to leg it out, caught his own bat between his legs like a steering wheel club.

It was almost too perfect.

The Rangers made the out as Lindor struggled to his feet. I don't know how this happens. I don't know why this happens. But I'm sort of glad it did, just to remind us all of life's most unshakable ruling tenet: no matter your good intentions, the universe will have its cruel jokes. And you must accept them as they come. Even if they're you're own bat you loved and trusted.

Dan is on Twitter. He hates to see a man hoist by his own petard. Sometimes petards are bats.
