Is Royals' Lorenzo Cain an MVP candidate?

Published Jul. 22, 2015 2:13 p.m. ET

Lorenzo Cain is in the middle of an unbelievable stretch of baseball.

In fact, only three other players in American League history have accomplished what Cain has in his last eight games: 15 hits, four doubles, four home runs, nine RBI's, nine runs scored, and two stolen bases. Only Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Derek Jeter have accomplished the same feat, as noted by FOX Sports Kansas City.

His incredible play as of late, combined with his play throughout the rest of this season, puts him in the conversation for MVP.

Cain is hitting .315 with a .371 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, 45 RBI, 21 doubles and 18 stolen bases.

With Mike Trout on pace to hit 50 homers this year, it's almost already decided that Trout will win MVP this year. But that doesn't take away from what Cain has been able to accomplish this season.
