Someone forgot to inform Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto that players are subject to ejection should they throw their equipment.

Votto struck out in the third inning of Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and spiked his helmet in frustration. He was then promptly ejected by home plate umpire Chris Conroy.

Reds manager Bryan Price made his way toward the plate to talk to Conroy about it, and shortly thereafter, Votto realized that he had been ejected from the game. He then threw his hat and glove down and ran back toward Conroy. Votto then got in the umpire’s face to yell at him, and even bumped into Conroy while doing so—which was not a very smart move on his part.

There’s a good chance that Votto will receive a suspension in the near future for making contact with Conroy.
