Josh Reddick, Rich Hill headed to Dodgers in huge trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a splash on deadline day.

The team on Monday acquired outfielder Josh Reddick and pitcher Rich Hill in a trade with the Oakland A's, bolstering their bid at a postseason run.

In exchange, the Dodgers are sending a trio of minor-league pitchers to Oakland — Frankie Montas, Jharel Cotton and Grant Holmes.

The Dodgers entered Monday 59-46, leading the NL wild-card standings and just two games behind the Giants in the NL West

Reddick is hitting .296 in 68 games for the A's this year and should provide an offensive boost to a lineup that is 23rd in the majors in team batting average. Hill is 9-3 with a 2.14 ERA in 14 starts for Oakland this year, adding another quality arm to a pitching staff that is fourth-best in the league in ERA.

The deal might also open the door for the Dodgers to deal outfielder Yasiel Puig, according to Rosenthal.

The three-pitcher haul was hefty, but the Dodgers may be thinking about keeping Reddick and Hill for the long-term.

Both the offense and pitching looked just fine for the Dodgers on Sunday in a 14-3 win over the Diamondbacks, the team's fifth win in their last seven games.
