Kansas City Royals interested in Cincinnati Reds' Jay Bruce?

The Royals are currently in control of the AL Central -- and with a 5 1/2 game lead over the second-place Twins, it doesn't look like it's changing any time soon.

But if the Royals plan to make it deep into the postseason once again this year, they'll likely look to add a starting pitcher and maybe even an outfielder to replace the injured Alex Gordon before the July 31 non-waiver deadline.

While rumors linking the Royals to Reds stater Johnny Cueto continue to swirl, it looks like KC could be interested in another member of the Reds, outfielder Jay Bruce.

According to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star, Bruce could very likely be a target for the Royals. McCullough also notes that the Reds have been scouting players in Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas:

Bruce, 28, could be a very suitable replacement for Gordon in right field. He's hitting .255 with 15 homers, 20 doubles and 48 RBI for the Reds this season. Bruce is signed through 2016 with a player option for 2017, but his $12.5 million owed for the remainder of his contract might be too rich for the Royals' tastes, unless the Reds agree to pay part of his salary.
