LA Angels Perez & Simmons Finalist For AL Gold Glove Award.
The LA Angels did not have much go right for them this season as a team, but some individual players have a chance to win awards. Catcher Carlos Perez and shortstop Andrelton Simmons are finalist for the Rawlings AL Gold Glove Award.
Simmons has already won two Gold Gloves in the National League. This would be his first for the LA Angels. Perez on the other hand has never been nominated for the Gold Glove Award. Perez is a rather curious nomination considering he only played just over half a season catching in 87 games. The winners have already been chosen, but will not be announced until November 8th.
Simmons had another fine season defensively despite it being disrupted by a torn ligament in his thumb back in May. He made 10 errors in 545 total chances with a .982 fielding percentage. In addition Simmons saved 18 runs defensively during the season despite missing 38 games due to the thumb injury.

Simmons also set a career high in batting average at .281 with four homers and 44 RBI’s. Simmons also stole 10 bases which was also a career-high. His On-Base-Percentage was .324 which was also a career best for Simmons.
As for Perez he only made three errors in 619 total chances which equated to be a .995 fielding percentage. Perez also had eight defensive runs saved and had 43 assists. Offensively it was a different story as he hit only .209 for the year with five homers and 31 runs batted in. Perez was actually sent down twice during the season to the minors due to ineffectiveness offensively.

The other finalist at catcher are James McCann of Detroit, who also is a first-time nominee and three-time Gold Glove Winner Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez. At shortstop the other finalist are Jose Iglesias of the Tigers and Francisco Lindor of the Cleveland Indians. Both Iglesias and Lindor have never won the award before.
The Angels have had two Gold Glove catchers before which were Bengie Molina. 2002 and 2003 and Bob Boone won the award four times in 1982, 1986, 1987, and 1988. At shortstop Orlando Cabrera won the award in 2007, Erick Aybar won the award in 2011, and Jim Fregosi won the award in 1967. The LA Angels have won a total of 33 Gold Glove Awards in club history.
If either Perez or Simmons wins the AL old Glove Award for catcher or shortstop it would be a nice way to wrap up another wise dismal season in 2016. Good luck gentlemen hope you bring home the hardware (trophies).
