Los Angeles Angels bring in Michael Bourn with Mike Trout injured

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:56 p.m. ET

The Los Angeles Angels have to find a way to hold down the fort in center field as the best player in baseball, Mike Trout, works his way back from injury. They've made a move on that front by signing Michael Bourn.

Los Angeles Angels fans are still recovering from the devastating injury to their star center fielder, Mike Trout. To cope for the time being, the team has brought in veteran outfielder Michael Bourn on a minor league deal to help improve the depth of the outfield, according to Chris Cotillo of SB Nation.

At the moment, the Angels have Ben Revere, Shane Robinson, Eric Young Jr. and Kole Calhoun on the big league roster with Cameron Maybin currently out with an injury as well.

Bourn just recently opted out of his minor league deal with the Orioles a few days ago. At 34 years old, the speedy outfielder is not the player that he once was, but he was productive during his time at Triple-A this season.

In 47 games in the Orioles' minor league system, Bourn only hit .220, but got on base at an impressive .373 clip. However, known for his speed, the veteran outfielder only swiped three bags in his effort to make his way back to the majors.

Bourn represents some possible depth for the Angels or maybe even a starting option while Trout recovers from a thumb injury for the next six to eight weeks. What helps the left-handed hitter is that he can play all outfield positions and is coming off a 2016 campaign where he started for the Orioles in the postseason.

The Angels are still just two games under .500, but it seems hard to believe that they can make a run over the next month or so given their injury situation. Signing players like Bourn could be necessary in order to tread water.

Do you think Bourn will make an impact on the Angels over at least the next few months? Let us know in the comment section below.
