Mariners get Jean Segura from DBacks in five-player trade
The Mariners have acquired shortstop Jean Segura from the Diamondbacks for righthander Taijuan Walker and infielder Ketel Marte, the teams announced Wednesday.
Segura, 26, batted a career-best .319 with 20 home runs, along with 33 stolen bases last season for Arizona in his lone season with the team, and should slide in as Seattle’s starting shortstop immediately.
Walker, 24 and a former top prospect, went 8–11 with a 4.22 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 134 1/3 innings (24 starts) last year, and will join a Diamondbacks rotation that struggled greatly last season. Marte, 23, hit .259 in 119 games, and figures to add infield depth.
Seattle also acquired outfielder Mitch Haniger and lefthander Zac Curtis in the deal. Haniger, 25, made his MLB debut last season and hit .321 with 25 home runs between Double and Triple A. Curtis had a 6.75 ERA in 21 MLB appearances.
