McClendon to miss Mariners vs. Tigers series after death in family

Published Jul. 6, 2015 12:44 p.m. ET

Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon will not manage the Mariners for the club's series with the Detroit Tigers that kicks off Monday night at Safeco Field.

Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reported the news Sunday on Twitter, as apparently McClendon's sister has passed away.

In his absence, bench coach Trent Jewett will take over manager duties until McClendon returns later this week.

As Lookout Landing pointed out, the passing of McClendon's sister is the second in the past two weeks to hit the organization, coming after the death of announcer Dave Sims' father-in-law.
