Mets ace Noah Syndergaard deserved better last night
I feel bad for Noah Syndergaard.
There I said it, and I know you feel bad too. Syndergaard threw the game of his life. He allowed no runs against the San Francisco Giants in a Wild Card game. He essentially gave Madison Bumgarner a run for his money — yes the Mets didn’t score but neither did the Giants against Syndergaard.
Bumgarner had no cushion. He had no run support. And that’s all because of Syndergaard. Thor let no runs score. He did his job. He kept the Wild Card game scoreless through seven innings.
And then he was taken out of the game. Addison Reed did his job of keeping it scoreless. But then Jeurys Familia gave up a three run home run to Conor Gillaspie in the top of the ninth inning.
That’s when all of Syndergaard’s work went to waste.
I feel bad for Thor, I really do. As crappy as I feel right now that my team is not advancing to the legitimate playoffs, I feel horrible for Syndergaard. The kid did his job. He pitched the game of his life. He was beautiful. And in return he gets no run support…..and the Mets are out of the playoffs. How unfair is that.
Syndergaard, at just 24 years old, stepped up to the plate this season. In a starting rotation with Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom, he became the Mets’ ace. He was the one who the Mets had and could rely on in the Wild Card game. He was the healthy one — and the most dominant.
Thor proved himself this season. He proved himself in the Wild Card game. The Mets lost, but it’s most definitely not because of Syndergaard and that should be made known.
Syndergaard did his job and did it beautiful. If I were Syndergaard I’d be beyond angry right now. He did his job. It’s a shame the bats couldn’t wake up and do their job.
