Mets' Duda takes first swings in rehab from back injury

Published Sep. 3, 2015 4:02 p.m. ET

New York Mets first baseman Lucas Duda made some progress in his rehabilitation assignment on Wednesday when he swung a bat for the first time in nearly two weeks.

Sidelined since Aug. 21 with a small thoracic herniated disk in his back, Duda is rehabbing at the team's complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The left-handed slugger, who has 21 homers this season after clubbing a career-high 30 in 2014, will not come off the 15-day disabled list this weekend even though he is eligible.

The Mets have been using Daniel Murphy and Michael Cuddyer to replace Duda at first base, although Murphy had to leave Wednesday's game with an injury to his left quadriceps.
