Mets infielder Wilmer Flores dealing with wrist injury

Another day, another Mets injury

Mets infielder Wilmer Flores has had a new injury creep up on him. Flores had been sidelined with some neck stiffness following a pretty intense play at plate during the Mets’ extra inning loss to the Braves on Saturday. However, according to the team, his issue is now with his right wrist.

Not being able to even swing a bat is a pretty good indicator that this injury may linger for longer than we’d all like.

In the 2016 season, the Mets have had to deal with what seems like an insanely high number of injuries. We’re obviously all hoping this latest one doesn’t keep Flores out for long.

There are only 16 games remaining in the regular season, but if the injury turns out to be serious, Flores could miss most or all of the games down the stretch and put his availability for potential postseason games in question.

With James Loney’s awful performance at the plate, Flores’ absence will be felt even more than usual. He may not be as flashy as Loney defensively, but he’s not a total liability, either.

On top of that, Flores has definitely shown to be more consistent overall, and has absolutely torched left-handed pitching this year.

More of the Mets’ bench will have to step up while Flores is on the sidelines.

Thankfully, with the September call-ups, the team has a bigger pool from which to pick from. Kelly Johnson has been a huge pickup for the team this season, and rookies like TJ Rivera and Ty Kelly could also fill in where needed in the infield.
