Miguel Cabrera greatly missed at this year's All-Star Game
The show must go on, even without Miggy.
Miguel Cabrera is missing his 10th All-Star bid due to a calf injury he suffered earlier this month, and there's no doubt he's missed by his peers. And especially by his Tigers teammates.
J.D. Martinez and Jose Iglesias are first-time All-Stars this year, and they both wish Miggy could be there with them.
"I would have loved to be here with him just to be able to follow him around and follow his lead and let him show me the ropes," Martinez told Detroit Free Press. Cabrera has helped mentor Martinez and mold him into the player he is today.
Iglesias, on the other hand, looks to Cabrera as a big brother figure and is disappointed they can't share the experience together.
"I"m very disappointed," Iglesias said via Free Press. "It would have been a lot different, but unfortunately he's hurt. It would have been huge for him to be here with me for my first All-Star Game. I would have liked to share that with him.
"He's a guy that I'm always with him, I talk to him about everything, so he's a big part of me being here today."
Iglesias said he and Martinez both texted with Cabrera on Monday.
"I texted him and sent him pictures and stuff, but I don't want to bother him too much because I know how much he would like to be here," Iglesias said.
Cabrera's teammates aren't the only ones missing his presence, fellow Venezuelans Felix Hernandez and Salvador Perez both said it's not the same without him.
"I miss him, said Hernandez. "He's so fun."
The Royals catcher echoed Hernandez's sentiment. "I really wanted him to be here," Perez told Free Press.
Price said that Cabrera is missed in more ways than one.
"Everybody in here wants to see Miguel. He's awesome. His act on the field, which fans get to see quite a bit, is the most unique I've ever seen of a player of that caliber. For a player of his caliber to be as good as he is with as much fun as he does, it's crazy."
