Mike Trout put on a sliding clinic over the weekend

Mike Trout had himself quite the weekend. His Angels beat the Blue Jays twice, by a combined score of 10–1, and he went 3 for 7 with a double, three runs, two walks, an RBI and a stolen base. He also tortured Toronto’s defense on the basepaths.

Trout used nifty slides to avoid being tagged out three times.

The first was absolutely ridiculous. It came in the sixth inning on Saturday night when the centerfielder tried to swipe third. Catcher Russell Martin made a picture-perfect throw down, putting the ball right in front of the third base bag, but Trout swam around it, lifting up his left arm and sneaking in his right.

On Sunday, he was back at it. Both slides came at the expense of rightfielder Jose Bautista, who failed to hose him trying to stretch a single into a double, and again failed to throw him out as he tried to score on an Albert Pujols single. The latter was mind-bending.

We didn’t need a reminder that Trout is goot at every single facet of the game, but we got one anyway.
