Mike Trout 'really excited' about new weather balloon - a gift from Jim Cantore
Mike Trout seems destined for a post-baseball career in meteorology.
The Los Angeles Angels star is an unabashed enthusiast of all things weather-related, going so far as to call in to the Weather Channel's Jim Cantore to report on the East Coast storms last month.
So when Cantore sent Trout his own functioning weather balloon, Mike was understandably over the moon with excitement.
MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez quoted Trout as saying of the gift, "I'm really excited about that" when reached for comment at Halos spring training.
The weather balloon is designed to track temperature, humidity and wind speed, something that Trout obviously experiences back home in New Jersey during the offseason ... though maybe not so much in perennially sunny Southern California.
Still, Trout is happy to receive his new contraption and told Gonzalez just how far is weather obsession goes:
"My girlfriend tells me that I'm crazy, because I'm up every hour, just seeing the snow fall," Trout said. "I like this stuff, man. I like thunderstorms. Obviously tornadoes are bad, because they wipe out towns and cities, but I enjoy watching them."
Remember this story in 15 or 20 years down the line when Trout winds up on top of the meteorology world like he is the baseball world today.
