MLB playoffs 2016: When does the World Series start?
October is upon us, which means plenty of MLB excitement. When does the World Series start?
Thanks to a win in the All-Star game played at Petco Park, the American League holds home field advantage in this years World Series. The series runs in a 2-3-2 format which means the AL will be the home team in first and last two games while the NL gets the middle three. The schedule for the games are as follows:
Last year the Kansas City Royals won the World Series in five games over the San Francisco Giants. It was the first title for the franchise in exactly 30 years. While the Giants have made the postseason, the Royals fell short with a disappointing 81-81 season.
The 2016 series could have a good shot at trumping the excitement of 2016 if the Chicago Cubs advance. It’s widely known that the Cubs haven’t won a World Series since 1908, and have repeatedly used the mantra, "there’s always next year." This very much could be the year for the Cubs, and they’re the odds-on-favorite to take home the title at 7-to-4.
Along with the Cubs, the National League teams that made the playoffs in 2016 are the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals. The American League teams are the Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers.
If your team was lucky enough to make the playoffs, good luck to you and hope to see you in late October.
