MLB suspends Blue Jays' Encarnacion for dust-up with ump

Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion has been suspended one game by Major League Baseball for making contact with an umpire.

Encarnacion, who was also fined an undisclosed amount, has elected to appeal the suspension.

The Blue Jays slugger bumped home plate umpire Vic Carapazza in the first inning of Friday's 2-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians when the two got into a heated argument over balls and strikes. Manager John Gibbons was also ejected from the game during the same incident, while catcher Russell Martin was ejected later in the game for arguing with Carapazza.

Encarnacion will continue to play until his appeal is heard. He's currently hitting .262 with 22 homers and an American League-leading 73 RBI through 82 games.
