If the Los Angeles Dodgers already weren't aggressively shopping for rotation help before the nonwaiver deadline, they are now.
The team announced Wednesday that left-hander Alex Wood will be sidelined up to two months after elbow surgery.
Wood, 25, is 1-4 with a 3.99 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 10 starts (56 1/3 innings) this season. He last pitched May 30.
The Dodgers announced Tuesday that ace Clayton Kershaw has been shut down indefinitely after experiencing a setback with his back injury. That news coincided with the announcement that left-hander Hyun-jin Ryu had been placed back on the DL because of elbow soreness -- after making his only start of the season earlier this month. Meanwhile, left-hander Brett Anderson has yet to pitch this season after offseason back surgery, and right-hander Brandon McCarthy only recently made his 2016 debut after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
LA acquired right-hander Bud Norris from the Atlanta Braves in late June to help fortify the rotation, but it still has work to do if it hopes to remain in the playoff chance. Entering Wednesday's games, the Dodgers (53-42) were 4.5 games behind the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants but led the NL wild-card race.
