New A's slugger Davis ready to 'crush it' in Oakland -- and battle Brewers
The Oakland Athletics filled a hole last week, picking up slugger Khris Davis from the Milwaukee Brewers for a pair of prospects.
In Davis, Oakland is taking on a cost-controlled outfielder who hit 27 home runs for the Brewers in 2015. The club needed right-handed power to offset its lefty-heavy attack, and Davis could provide just that.
Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel spoke with Davis on Tuesday to gauge his reaction to the trade, and he definitely seems excited about it:
The Brewers and A's will face off in four interleague games in 2016, something Davis is also anticipating:
The A's gave up catching prospect Jacob Nottingham in order to acquire Davis, and that's a name to remember down the line.
For the rebuilding Brewers, Nottingham could become a piece of the puzzle in 2017 or 2018 (as he still has some minor-league work to do before being MLB-ready).
Will Davis's raw power translate well at O.co Coliseum, a place known to deplete hitters' stat lines? The last two real "power hitters" the A's have had from the right side were Yoenis Cespedes and Josh Donaldson, so the A's obviously are hoping Davis can slide in and be a run producer in 2016 and beyond.
