Oblique strain sends A's Graveman to DL, likely ending his season

Published Aug. 25, 2015 12:11 a.m. ET

Young Oakland Athletics right-hander Kendall Graveman has had his share of ups and downs in 2015, and it appears as if his year will be cut short due to an injury.

After leaving Sunday's start early, Graveman was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with a strained left oblique as reported by CSN Bay Area's Joe Stiglich

Considering there's roughly one week left in August and barely five weeks remaining in the season, it's likely Graveman has thrown his last pitch of 2015.

In 21 starts with the A's this season, Graveman went 6-9 with a 4.05 ERA. While his overall experience at the MLB level was tinged with inconsistency and growing pains, Graveman did flash some serious potential on more than one occasion.

Obtained by the A's in the mega-deal that sent Josh Donaldson to the Toronto Blue Jays, there's every reason for the A's to think Graveman - who was pitching in his first season as a full-time contributor at the big-league level - will be a part of their future plans for the next few years, if not longer.
