Pitcher isn't only position Reds' Lorenzen can play
While the Reds would prefer to keep Michael Lorenzen on the mound, he could also play the outfield – which he did in college – if necessary.
"Defensively, I'd still trust him out there," Reds manager Bryan Price told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "He was a really good college position player."
Despite Price's words, it may seem far-fetched for a manger to use a member of his pitching staff in the outfield. However, if the Reds were really in a bind, Price insists he would do it.
In fact, in a recent game in Chicago, it almost happened.
"We had a four-man bench and someone who couldn't play," Price said. "He was our next line of defense as a position player. I would have put Lorenzen out in the left field before Tucker (Barnhart).
