Rangers bench coach away after daughter's death

Published Apr. 26, 2010 6:57 p.m. ET

Texas Rangers bench coach Jackie Moore is away from the team after the death of his daughter.

The Rangers say Sherry Moore Parker, 52, died Sunday. The cause of death hadn't been determined. Moore learned of her death near the end of Sunday's game against Detroit and is in Houston with his family.

Moore is in the second year of his fourth stint as a Texas coach. The 71-year-old Moore has been involved in professional baseball as a player, coach or manager every season since 1957.

Rangers hitting coach Clint Hurdle, a former major league manager, will fill in for Moore during his absence. Scott Servais, the team's player development director, will also be in uniform.
