Red Sox acquire ace Chris Sale from the White Sox in a blockbuster trade

The Boston Red Sox have acquired left-hander Chris Sale in a blockbuster trade with the Chicago White Sox at the Winter Meetings, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports.

Sale, 27, has spent his entire seven-season major-league career with the White Sox, who drafted him 13th overall in 2010.

In 32 starts this past season, Sale went 17-10 with a 3.34 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, a 3.46 FIP and 233 strikeouts in 226.2 innings. He has been an All-Star the past five seasons and has finished in the top six in the AL Cy Young Award voting in each of those seasons.

Sale is 74-50 with a 3.00 ERA and a 10.1 K/9 ratio in his career.

He’ll join AL Cy Young winner Rick Porcello and David Price, among other, in the Red Sox’s suddenly-loaded rotation. Sale is owed $38 million over the next three seasons.

The prized pickup for the White Sox is third baseman Yoan Moncada, 21, who is considered by many to be the best prospect in the majors. Moncada hit .211/250/.263 with one RBI in 20 plate appearances during a brief call-up with Boston this past season, bypassing the Triple-A level completely. In 106 games between Class A and Class AA last season, he hit .294/.407/.511 with 15 homers, 62 RBI and 45 stolen bases.

Also going to Chicago in this deal: right-handed pitching prospect Michael Kopech, outfield prospect Luis Alexander Basabe and right-handed pitching prospect Victor Diaz.
