Red Sox shut down Joe Kelly, Junichi Tazawa
It's been a rough 2015 for the Boston Red Sox.
Picked by many to win the AL East to start the season, the Red Sox faded quickly.
They have played better since mid-August, however, and that's due in no small part to the resurgence of starter Joe Kelly.
Kelly performed badly to start the season, owning a 5.67 ERA in the first half. After being sent to Pawtucket, he bounced back with a 2.35 ERA since August 7, going 7-0 over that span.
He left his last start September 15 with a shoulder injury. Interim manager Torey Lovullo announced Wednesday that he will be shut down for the season.
In addition to Kelly, setup-man-turned-closer Junichi Tazawa will also be shut down:
As the tweet above notes, Tazawa is not being shut down due to injury.
Should Kelly make a full recovery, he should remain at-or-near the top of the rotation in 2016.
