Report: Allegations could jeopardize Aroldis Chapman deal to Dodgers
Headlines took a drastic turn on a potential deal between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds that would send closer Aroldis Chapman to Los Angeles when a report was published Monday that contained allegations from Chapman's girlfriend of domestic abuse.
The Reds were on the cusp of sending Chapman to the Dodgers in exchange for two prospects, but upon the release of the report, trade talks between the two teams came to a halt.
According to the Los Angeles Times, who quoted an anonymous insider, the deal that would send one of the best closers in MLB to the Dodgers "could be in jeopardy" as MLB and the Dodgers investigate the allegations.
Chapman does not face any legal charges for the alleged incident (he reportedly locked himself in his garage and fired eight gunshots, which he reportedly admitted to police), but will be scrutinized under MLB's domestic violence policy.
The allegations come as speculation mounts as to whether the Dodgers would keep Chapman along with current closer Kenley Jansen or flip him or Jansen in another deal, potentially to acquire a starting pitcher.
