Report: Diamondbacks trying to trade Aaron Hill

Published Jan. 25, 2016 4:16 a.m. ET

The Arizona Diamondbacks reportedly are trying to find a trade partner for infielder Aaron Hill.

According to CBS Sports, the D-backs are shopping Hill, who has played second and third base for them over the past five years.

After posting an impressive first full season in Arizona in 2012, in which he hit .302/.360/.522 with 26 home runs and 85 RBI, Hill has been on a steady decline.

In the past three seasons, Hill has hit .253/.309/.388 while averaging nine home runs and 47 RBI.

While he predominantly has played second base throughout his 11-year career, Hill split time at second and third with the D-backs last year.

Arizona has a pair of young third baseman, Jake Lamb (25) and Brandon Drury (23), who are options to take over the hot corner. Lamb made 87 starts at the position in 2015 in his rookie year.

The report of the D-backs making an attempt to part ways with Hill comes as they waver on whether to sign free-agent second baseman Howie Kendrick.

While Kendrick could provide Arizona with steady production at the plate and protection in the field, the front office reportedly is hesitant to relinquish a draft pick to sign the veteran infielder, as he rejected a qualifying offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
