Report: Haren tells Marlins his preference remains to pitch out West

Miami Marlins right-hander Dan Haren has informed the team that his preference remains to pitch for a team out West, MLB.com reported Saturday.

Haren, acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the December deal that also netted second baseman Dee Gordon, has said he will consider retirement if he doesn't get his wish. (The Dodgers will pay the $10 million Haren is owed this season as part of the trade.)

Soon after the trade, Haren released this statement to media members, including FOX Sports Insider Ken Rosenthal: "I have been notified of the trade to Miami. My strong desire to remain in southern California has been well-documented. I will have to evaluate my options carefully before making any decisions."

The 34-year-old Haren went 13-11 with a 4.02 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 32 starts (186 innings) for the Dodgers in 2014. In his 12-season major-league career, he is 142-122 with a 3.77 ERA.
