The New York Mets will re-sign outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on a four-year, $110 million deal, Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports. It will be the largest free-agent deal in franchise history.
Cespedes, 31, was considered one of the top bats available off-season, and came in at No. 1 on Ben Reiter’s ranking of the top 50 free agents. After he was traded to the Mets at the 2015 trade deadline, Cespedes signed a one-year deal to stay in New York last off-season. The Cuban outfielder was named to his second All-Star team in 2016, and hit .280 with 31 home runs and 86 RBIs in 132 games.
This leaves Edwin Encarnacion and Mark Trumbo as the two next-best hitters available on the market.
