Rockies DFA former first-round pick outfielder Kyle Parker
Kyle Parker's days with the Colorado Rockies appear to be finished.
As they finalized a deal with free-agent outfielder Gerardo Parra on Wednesday, the Rockies designated Parker for assignment in a corresponding move to make room for their new acquisition on the 40-man roster.
Now that Parker has been designated for assignment, the Rockies will either trade him, assign him to a minor-league club, or cut him in the next 10 days. Another club may also claim him off waivers.
The 26-year-old outfielder likely will be playing in another organization in 2016, as he is "expected to spark interest from other clubs," according to the Denver Post.
Parker was selected with the 26th-overall pick in the first round of the 2010 amateur draft by the Rockies out of Clemson University.
While he hit well in his first four years in the minors, Parker didn't perform as well at the minor-league level in 2015 while bouncing up and down from the Rockies' major-league club, hitting .280 with nine home runs and 58 RBI in 93 minor-league games.
Although his time in the majors was limited to 138 plate appearances in 64 games over the past two seasons, Parker failed to impress Colorado at the big-league level, hitting .182/.217/.295 with three home runs, 12 RBI, and striking out 51 times against 24 hits.
