Royals considering moving Yordano Ventura to the bullpen?
The Kansas City Royals have some tough decisions to make about their starting rotation.
With Kris Medlen and Jason Vargas coming back from injuries, Kansas City will likely have seven players vying for a starting spot as of this week.
In addition to Medlen and Vargas, Danny Duffy, Yordano Ventura, Jeremy Guthrie, Edinson Volquez, and Chris Young will all be evaluated over the next two weeks as the Royals compete for the division crown down the stretch.
Manager Ned Yost knows he's got his work cut out for him, but did rule out one theory.
"I'm not going to run a six-man rotation," manager Ned Yost told the Kansas City Star. "But we're going to have to figure out who are the most productive guys. We've got to go on who is getting the job done."
Duffy and Ventura have both struggled throughout the season, and could find themselves being moved to the bullpen if they don't improve.
"When you sit down and look at it, really, Duffy and Ventura and Guthrie were our best guys at the end of the year last year," Yost said (via KC Star). "They were. All three of them. And all three of them have had their struggles this year, but you still work to get them going, because you know what they can do. But then again, Duffy and Ventura do have definite value coming out of the 'pen, to get us to where we need to go."
