Schafer back in Braves' lineup; Bay out for Mets

Published Jun. 5, 2011 8:46 p.m. ET

Jordan Schafer was back in the Atlanta Braves' lineup two days after he sustained a small sinus fracture fouling a bunt off his face.

Mets slumping slugger Jason Bay is being given Sunday night off for what manager Terry Collins says is a chance to take a ''deep breath.'' Dropped to sixth in the order Saturday, Bay went 0 for 4 to drop his average to .219. The Mets usual No. 4 or 5 hitter has only 10 RBIs this season.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Schafer ran, rode an exercise bike and worked in the weight room to see how he reacted to increased exertion before being added to the lineup, batting leadoff and playing center field. Schafer was taken to a hospital after bloodying his face Friday.

Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones was given a scheduled night off.
