Sonny in L.A.: A's Gray dominates Dodgers, picks up first career hit
Tuesday was a tough day for the Oakland Athletics, as they continued their fire sale by sending infielder/outfielder Ben Zobrist to the Kansas City Royals for two minor-league pitchers.
2015 is becoming more and more of a 'wash', so to speak, as Billy Beane's offseason reshaping of his club hasn't worked out.
Despite all the dark clouds swirling over the green & gold, Sonny Gray has been arguably the best pitcher in the AL this season. It continued on Tuesday night, as the A's 2015 All-Star shut out the powerful Los Angeles Dodgers in a masterful complete game three-hitter. How good was he? Well, this was the reaction of Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier after hitting a line drive into first baseman Ike Davis' glove:

It was Gray's second shutout of the month and his fourth overall in 2015, and left some marks on the history books due to its dominance:
Since it was an interleague game as well, Gray had to hit - and he connected on a Brett Anderson pitch for his first career major-league hit, as it eluded Adrian Gonzalez at first base and bounced down the right field line. Take a look:
Gray lowered his AL-best ERA to 2.16 in picking up his 11th win of the season. If he keeps this up, expect to see him in the Cy Young conversation toward the end of the year, even if it's an otherwise forgettable season in Oakland.
