The Cardinals outlast the Rockies in MLB's latest national anthem standoff

If the St. Louis Cardinals are stressing during their playoff push, they certainly aren’t showing it.

Prior to Wednesday afternoon’s game at Coors Field, Cardinals outfielder Jose Martinez and Rockies right-hander Carlos Estevez staged the majors’ latest national anthem standoff.

Martinez emerged as the victor, perhaps because his teammates kept him hydrated throughout the tense ordeal.

Meanwhile, Estevez was outfitted with a catcher's mask for some reason.

Unfortunately for St. Louis, the celebration was short-lived when the Rockies jumped out to a 6-1 lead after a second-inning grand slam by Nolan Arenado.
