Tigers make roster moves before start of second half
The Tigers announced a few roster moves Friday, just before kicking off the second half of the season.
Detroit has placed first baseman Mark Krauss on the paternity leave list to be present for the birth of his second child. To replace Krauss on the roster, the Tigers have recalled shortstop Dixon Machado from Triple-A Toledo before their series opener against the Baltimore Orioles.
Machado, who will be making his second stint with the big league club, has hit .272 for the Mud Hens with 15 doubles, four home runs and 36 RBI this season.
Krauss will be away from the team for one to three days as he joins his wife at home in Deshler, Ohio, for the birth of their newborn girl.
The Tigers will likely call on catcher Alex Avila, utility infielder Andrew Romine and third baseman Jefry Marte to split time at first base in Krauss's absence.
Detroit will face right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez in the series opener against the Orioles on Friday at Comerica Park.
