Trout has simple explanation for power after hitting 40th home run of 2015
Mike Trout finally did it. With his first-inning blast on Tuesday night against Lance McCullers of the Houston Astros, the Los Angeles Angels' star hit his 40th home run of the season.
This marks the first time in Trout's already stellar career that he's reached the 40-homer mark, and it probably won't be his last. MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez noted that Trout joined Troy Glaus as the only Angels in team history to reach that mark (Glaus hit 47 in 2000 and 41 in 2001).
Said Trout to Gonzalez of the achievement, "It's obviously special. Coming into the season, I thought it would be pretty special, pretty cool, and it happened."
When asked about his approach, Trout replied with something so simple-sounding it shows how easy everything is for him: "I just try to put good swings on the ball, and they go out."
Despite Trout's new personal milestone, manager Mike Scioscia doesn't really view his star player as a 'home run hitter'. "Obviously, he did it, he has the potential to do it, but I don't know if that's his baseline year where you're going to see him hit 40 to 50 home runs," Scioscia told Gonzalez. "He's just too good a hitter. He's going to hit .300 ever year; he's going to work counts."
Scioscia is probably right, since Trout explained to Gonzalez how he feels better and better at the plate each season: "Every year, I get more comfortable out there. That's the biggest thing. Experience and playing every day and seeing the pitchers more than once, it helps you out."
Add yet another amazing accomplishment to Trout's otherworldly skill set.
