Tulowitzki aiming for return to Blue Jays before end of season

Published Sep. 30, 2015 12:07 a.m. ET

In the 39 games that Troy Tulowitzki played for the Toronto Blue Jays, his team won 30 of them.

Coincidence or not, the team would probably like to see Tulo back in the lineup, who has been sidelined since September 12 after colliding with Kevin Pillar, fracturing his scapula.

According to Tulowitzki, he wants to be back this week.

“It’s nice to get out there on the field and watch the ball,” Tulowitzki said before Tuesday's postponed game, via Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star. “It’s a little different than hitting in the cage. I’m definitely pretty close. Maybe it’s the last game of the (Orioles) series. Maybe (Friday) when the Tampa series starts, but I definitely like my chances to play in games before the post-season starts.”

As Griffin notes, Tulowitzki has been swinging in the cage - about 30 swings on Tuesday against live pitching - in preparation for his return.

It seems as though his return isn't based off of his recovery, but how much pain he's willing to tolerate.

“I don’t think what’s going on in there is whether my bone doesn’t heal or the muscles don’t heal,” Tulowitzki said. “They’re going on (how I) feel. I’m good enough to take swings and I’m good enough to field ground balls and now it’s just about giving them good feedback: ‘Hey I took a lot of swings and a lot of hard swings and I feel good.’"

The Blue Jays will play the Baltimore Orioles in a doubleheader Wednesday with their magic number sitting at one.
