Why Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman might be the most interesting man in MLB
Marcus Stroman would very much like to be considered one of the game's best -- both on and off the field.
The 24-year-old Duke product is a vital part of the Toronto Blue Jays' pitching staff and enters the 2016 seaeson hungrier than ever after missing most of the 2015 season.
As he told Bob Nightengale of USA Today, however, he has goals that go far beyond the diamond.
Stroman, you see, wants to do it all:
Stroman is quoted as referring to the league as being "very conservative" -- though he hopes to be a part of the players to instill a change in that respect:
He continued:
That "fun element" is already at full strength in Toronto, home of epic bat flips turned into baseball cards and team Super Bowl pajama parties -- not to mention the reigning AL MVP who just signed a two-year deal to avoid arbitration and remain in "The Six."
In his chat with Nightengale, Stroman even says he is thankful that he tore his ACL during spring training 2015. If he didn't, he says, "maybe we never get David Price."
In his young career, Stroman is 15-6 with a 3.31 ERA in 30 games (24 starts). The ACL tear limited him to just four games down the stretch in 2015 and three starts in the postseason, so he should be well rested for a full season in 2016.
