Xander Bogaerts takes home AL Silver Slugger at shortstop
By Cameron McDonough
Two days after coming up just short of a Gold Glove, Xander Bogaerts was honored with the American League’s Silver Slugger Award at shortstop.
The Silver Slugger Award is given to the top offensive player at each position in both leagues, and it is voted on by coaches and managers. Bogaerts, who became the youngest Red Sox to win a Silver Slugger at 23 years old, was second in the AL with a .320 batting average. He also knocked in 81 runs and hit seven home runs.
The Red Sox sent out tweets congratulating Bogaerts on the award.
