Yankees GM calls Boston Red Sox the Golden State Warriors of baseball
The Red Sox shook up the baseball world with their trade for left-hander Chris Sale on Tuesday, and even the “Evil Empire” was stunned by the addition of yet another ace to Boston’s rotation.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman, who has constructed a couple super teams of his own over the years, made an interesting comparison between the Red Sox and the NBA squad best known for assembling a ridiculous amount of talent:
"That's a big one. That's a blockbuster," Cashman said, via MLB.com. "It was a 'Wow.' Obviously they gave up a lot and they got a lot. Boston's like the Golden State Warriors now in baseball; they've got their [Kevin] Durant, their [Draymond] Green, [Klay] Thompson and [Stephen] Curry. It's a big one."
So, how did Red Sox manager John Farrell respond? He noted that the Red Sox will face the same issue as the Warriors in their quest for a championship.
"You can put all the big names you want on a roster, but it's going to be important for our guys to buy into us as a team."
For the record, Sale is 4-1 with a 1.17 ERA and 61 strikeouts over 53.2 innings in 10 games (seven starts) against the Yankees in his career.
