Yankees' Joe Girardi gives his thoughs on Geno Smith incident
In case you hadn't heard, things are a big tumultuous for the New York Jets. Their first-string quarterback, Geno Smith, will miss six to eight weeks with a broken jaw. The broken jaw was suffered from a sucker punch by now-cut linebacker IK Enemkpali.
Naturally, the New York media asked New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi what he thought of the incident:
"It was kind of shocking," Girardi told reporters. "Usually you don't think of quarterbacks being the ones in the incidents."
And how to handle it from a managerial perspective?
"It's got to be difficult — how you handle it and moving forward and the importance of unity and it's one thing to get hurt on the field.
"It's tough. It's got to be tough for the players involved. One player gets released and one player competing for the starting job is not competing for six to 10 weeks. So it's got to be tough. The big thing is, you've got to learn from it and move on. That's what you have to do."
Luckily for Girardi, he has yet to deal with a broken jaw in the clubhouse.
