Replacing Derek Jeter was no easy task.

The New York Yankees acquired Didi Gregorius thinking he would be the guy to man the replace the legend, but after a rocky April, many fans were already calling for a change.

Luckily, the team stayed patient and the results are paying off.

If you take out Didi's ugly April (.206 average with four RBI), he is hitting .273 with five home runs and 28 RBI in 78 games. Perhaps more importantly, he has improved in the field, making just two errors since June 5.

“When we got him I spoke about his ability but that he was not a finished product,” GM Brian Cashman told the New York Post. “There were going to be growing pains, and we were forced to be patient. You hope your patience pays dividends. We are seeing that.’’

The Yankees will continue to rely on their emerging star at shortstop, as they try to fend off the Baltimore Orioles and surging Toronto Blue Jays.
